Creative Arts Development is being strongly supported as TangaYetu continues to nurture young talent in the performing arts sector in Tanga. The initiative, carried out through the Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN) – Tanga project, recently held a pivotal meeting with young people engaged in performing arts on October 22, 2025. The core agenda was to discuss the future of the Tanga film industry and explore effective ways for these creatives to access reliable markets through collaboration with various film stakeholders.

Tanga Film Industry: Applying Knowledge for Market Competitiveness
Tanga Film Industry growth hinges on applying specialized knowledge, as emphasized by GOYN Tanga Project Director Mr. Omar Bakari. He stressed the importance of young people utilizing the skills acquired from the Tanzania Film Board’s training sessions to substantially enhance creativity, improve the quality of their productions, and increase their competitiveness in local and external markets. The discussion was dynamic, involving many participants who are graduates of previous film training programs.

Resolutions to Strengthen Unity and Showcase Local Talent
Resolutions to strengthen unity and showcase local talent were key outcomes from the meeting of young creatives. Participants agreed to bolster their unity through the Tanga Regional Actors Association (SASA) to collectively achieve their professional goals. Practical actions include organizing open-air film exhibitions and acting festivals in public spaces like Forodhani, with the dual aim of promoting their work and attracting influential industry stakeholders. Furthermore, the young people committed to reviving and utilizing existing cinema halls in Tanga City to screen and promote local films.

Performing Arts Economic Empowerment: Translating Ideas into Action
Performing Arts economic empowerment requires translating great ideas into solid action, as advised by Ms. Khadija Ali, the GOYN Tanga Project Coordinator. She encouraged the youth to begin implementing their plans while clearly identifying specific areas where they require support from GOYN to achieve their financial goals through the performing arts. Ms. Ali closed the meeting by reiterating that TangaYetu is firmly committed to being a catalyst for youth development by providing crucial training, mentorship, and linkages with key stakeholders in the creative and entrepreneurial sectors.
