GOYN held a meeting in Tanga with 10 community groups involved in microcredit initiatives. The primary goal of the meeting was to discuss how these groups could expand their projects for a greater economic impact.
Dr. Omar, the Executive Director of GOYN, emphasized the importance of self-reliance and urged the groups to avoid the dependency on external aid, which can hinder progress and strategic planning.
The meeting also introduced the participants to a new government initiative called
“SASA,” which is a collaborative project between the government and international NGOs like IFD, ENABEL, and GIZ. This project aims to stimulate economic growth in Tanga.

Additionally, several organizations were present to provide valuable training and awareness.
Vodacom offered financial management training to help groups achieve their financial goals. The
Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA), represented by Scolastika Njozi, provided education on the proper use of medicines, stressing the dangers of self-medication and the importance of consulting a doctor for diagnoses and prescriptions. She also highlighted the inappropriate practice of some drug shops administering injections.
Despite the support, challenges remain, particularly a lack of knowledge in project management. Group members requested that GOYN continue to provide training and follow-up visits to support their growth. GOYN has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering these groups and seeks increased support for long-term sustainable development.
