Tanga District Development Projects 2025

Tanga District Development Projects

Tanga District Development Projects are transforming the region into a hub of innovation, technology, and economic growth. Recently, Tanga District Commissioner (DC) Hon. Dadi Koilimba concluded a two-day tour to inspect several key development projects implemented under the TangaYetu initiative, a community-driven program supported by multiple non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The initiative focuses on infrastructure improvement, youth empowerment, and technological advancement to boost economic opportunities for the people of Tanga.

TangaYetu Initiative Boosting Youth Empowerment

The Commissioner’s tour ended at the STEM Park hall in Kisosora, where he inspected a state-of-the-art STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Center. This modern facility is designed to provide practical learning tools, helping students strengthen their understanding of science subjects through hands-on experience rather than relying solely on theory.

Hon. Koilimba emphasized that such projects create a pathway for young people to gain relevant skills for self-employment and formal job opportunities. “There has been significant progress through the TangaYetu project, which has created numerous opportunities for youth to uplift themselves economically,” he stated.

Promoting Agriculture, Science, and Technology in Tanga

During the tour, the DC encouraged youth in Tanga City to actively engage in agriculture, science, and technology-based projects. He highlighted that acquiring skills in these fields is crucial for building sustainable livelihoods in today’s technology-driven world.

Projects like TangaYetu not only focus on education but also aim to address youth unemployment by encouraging entrepreneurship and vocational training. This approach supports long-term economic growth while reducing dependency on foreign aid.

Swahili Digiti Project Offering ICT Training

Another highlight of the tour was the Swahili Digiti Project, which currently provides digital training to 250 young people in Tanga. The initiative equips them with skills necessary to thrive in the growing information and communication technology (ICT) sector.

Mr. Gillsant Maseko, Director of Swahili Digiti, stressed the importance of collaboration between the government and community-based projects. “We work with various organizations and telecommunications companies to connect our youth with global digital opportunities,” he said. This partnership helps prepare young Tanzanians for competitive local and international job markets.

Smart City Project for Sustainable Urban Development

The tour also showcased the Observatory to Enhance Smart City Project, presented by land surveyor Mr. Isaya Clement. This project aims to improve urban environmental services in Tanga City by leveraging technology and data collection. It is part of a broader plan to transform Tanga into a smart, efficient, and sustainable city.

The integration of technology into urban planning will enhance public services, waste management, and infrastructure development, making Tanga a model city for other regions in Tanzania.

Driving Economic Growth and Community Engagement

The TangaYetu initiative plays a crucial role in inclusive social and economic development. By engaging the community in decision-making and focusing on youth empowerment, it promotes long-lasting change. These efforts are positioning Tanga as a regional leader in innovation, education, and digital transformation.
