World AIDS Day Collaboration: Tanga Stakeholders Unite to End AIDS 2025

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day collaboration is intensifying in Tanga City as key organizations unite to combat the epidemic. On 19 November 2025, the TangaYetu Initiative, through its Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN) Tanga project, participated in a strategic meeting with the Acting Chief Medical Officer of Tanga City Council, Dr. Masoud Mtiga. The meeting was convened to coordinate robust preparations for World AIDS Day, commemorated annually on 1 December. This year’s theme, “Break Barriers, Strengthen Response, End AIDS,” sets a powerful tone for the upcoming activities.

Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Combat HIV/AIDS

Multi-stakeholder partnerships were demonstrated by the diverse group of attendees working to combat HIV/AIDS infections and gender-based violence, particularly among children, youth, and women. The participation highlighted TangaYetu Initiative’s commitment to strengthening collaborative efforts to ensure that the voices and real-life experiences of young people are fully integrated into community health and development strategies.

Reducing New HIV Infections: The Strategic Plan

Reducing new HIV infections remains the primary focus of the discussions. Stakeholders reviewed progress made at the national, regional, and district levels, ensuring alignment with the National AIDS Control Strategic Plan 2021/22–2025/26. The ambitious goal of this plan is to achieve 0% new infections by 2025. The City Council plans to use the celebrations to effectively assess achievements made in combating HIV/AIDS while reminding the public that the epidemic still exists and urging everyone to take necessary precautionary measures.

Reaching Vulnerable Populations and Resource Allocation

Reaching vulnerable populations is essential for the effective use of resources, emphasized Dr. Mtiga. He noted that addressing the specific needs of key groups—including young people, fishermen, mobile workers, sex workers, miners, people who use drugs, and inmates—is critical for success. Dr. Mtiga also urged all stakeholders, including KONGA (the network of people living with HIV), to submit their reports early for inclusion in a consolidated report to be presented during the celebrations.

Media Platforms for Awareness and Commemoration Details

Media platforms for awareness, such as radio and social media, were recommended by stakeholders to disseminate information and mobilize communities without requiring large gatherings ahead of the main event. National-level commemorations will be held in Dodoma, while in Tanga Region, the Guest of Honour is expected to be the District Commissioner of Tanga.

Youth Advocacy in Health and Economic Inclusion

Youth advocacy in health is a priority for TangaYetu Initiative. As a key player in youth development, TangaYetu, through the GOYN Tanga project, will actively participate in regional preparations. They will continue advocating for the inclusion of challenges facing young people affected by HIV, specifically as they pursue vital employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, ensuring that health status does not become a barrier to economic success.
